The Designer's Note: Pajamas

The Designer's Note: Pajamas

Too good to sleep in?

"Cinabre pajamas are far more than mere loungewear. I designed them as a natural extension of our evening wardrobe: a tailored piece, engineered with the same precision as our tuxedo jackets and cut for the elegance of the night owl.

We have curated exceptional textiles for their impeccable drape and thermal comfort: two-ply cotton poplin  and silk-cotton blends that ensure a second-skin touch. Every seam is built to last. The collar is interlined (to stand up even when jumping out of bed), the contrasting piping structures the silhouette, and we gave the cut some air: a bit loose yet sharp. It is this volume that makes you want to take your pajamas for a stroll, far beyond the bedroom.

The pajama (from the Persian pay-jama — literally 'leg garment') was actually adopted by British colonists in India as practical indoor attire, far better suited to the climate than their fog-ready parade uniforms. Brought back in their luggage at the end of the 19th century, the pajama then moved into the bedroom to replace the men’s nightshirt. It wasn't until the 1920s, on the French Riviera, that it reclaimed its right to step out.

It is this subversion and spirit of nonchalance that I wanted to capture with our collection. Wear them as a full set under the covers, or repurpose the jacket with tuxedo trousers for a night out: the night will be yours."
