Better than a gold medal

The Games set Paris alight once again. We were there, we'll be there again, we won’t get tired of it. But on August 29, another thrilling sporting event began: the America's Cup challenge. Quite simply the oldest international competition still contested, the most demanding sailing trophy. A myth.

Cinabre has the honor of creating exclusive ties and bow ties for the French team. Welcome on board!

The Silver Ewer, the America's Cup trophy since 1851. France has never brought it back... yet.

A GOOD START

When I was contacted by the French America's Cup team, I thought back to my youth, racing in all weather conditions, with more or less happy results. I've always been passionate about sailing. Apparently I won't be needed on deck this time, but I'm still enjoying being “on board” in this epic. The good news? France, with its Orient-Express Racing Team, has already won one of its two races yesterday during the 1st day of competition. Not bad for an outsider.

SPYING ON THE HIGH SEAS

With almost 1 billion viewers for the last edition, the America's Cup is the most fascinating nautical competition, as much for its sporting exploits as for its secrets and fantasies.

The yacht 'America', in 1851, winning the first race, by Fitz Hugh Lane. The America's Cup has its origins in an anthological challenge between Queen Victoria and the NYC Yacht Club.

Espionage is commonplace: it's not enough to have the best crew (remember that I'm still available), you also have to be constantly innovating. So teams keep a close eye on each other, causing a lot of paranoia and mini-scandals in the process. Competitors are banned from tapping phones, hacking computers or flying overhead in drones. Yes, the rules are that detailed.

ACCESSORIES IN THE COLORS OF ORIENT EXPRESS RACING TEAM

Two exclusive designs, woven from silk, have been created for the French team - Orient Express Racing Team:

- A club tie featuring a tricolor stripe (of course) and the official competition boat, the AC75.

- A tie and bow tie woven with wind roses, to symbolize the travels of the Orient Express.

ENOUGH TO SAIL INTO THE NEW SCHOOL YEAR

“Take me away...”. Our reco's to get you through the back-to-school season dreaming of elsewhere:

- "Untold : The Race of the Century", a Netflix documentary that traces Team USA's first defeat at the America's Cup (the Americans had won the trophy from the first edition until 1996).

- "Avec les fées" by Sylvain Tesson: a travel journal linking the mysteries of land and sea. A fine work, in French.

- "Into the Wind",the expert media about sailing and competition... A rendez-vous for sailors and the curious who like to cast off.
